Business Controller

We are looking for a hands-on and analytical Business Controller to join our Finance team and support the company’s next phase of growth through better insight, sharper planning and improved decision-making.

Optics11 is a world leader in fiber optic sensing technology for ultra-sensitive early warning systems. From our base in the Netherlands – a global hub for high-tech innovation and maritime expertise – we are on a mission to make the world safer by protecting critical infrastructure such as sea-lanes, offshore energy assets and subsea cables from disruption. Optics11 recently closed a €17 million investment round.

As Business Controller, you will play a key role in supporting the managing directors of our market teams, enabling performance-driven decision-making and helping translate our strategy into actionable plans. You will assist in setting targets, creating dashboards, preparing business cases and improving our internal and external reporting. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, scale-up environment and wants to make a tangible impact.

You’ll report directly to the CFO and work closely with stakeholders across the company, including Sales, Product Management, Project Management, HR, Operations and the broader leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

Performance Insight & Decision Support:

• Support our two market teams (Energy & Underwater Security) with performance monitoring, target setting and forecasting.

• Develop and implement KPI frameworks, including dashboarding via BI tools.

• Help Product Management prepare and review business cases for new product launches and market entries.

• Coordinate with Project Management to improve reporting and monitoring of key development projects.

Planning, Forecasting & Reporting:

• Maintain and continuously update the company’s strategic financial model.

• Coordinate the annual budgeting process and set up reporting per team (actuals vs budget/LE).

• Prepare periodic latest estimates and internal management reports.

• Assist in external reporting including updates to the Supervisory Board / Shareholders.

• Work closely with the CFO to integrate business control into the broader planning cycle.

What we’re looking for?

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.

• 2+ years of relevant experience, including time FP&A or business control.

• Experience in a scale-up, tech company or dynamic environment with changing structures and maturing processes.

• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to work with large datasets.

• Proven ability to build dashboards and financial models (experience with BI tools and Excel required).

• Hands-on, proactive and structured approach.

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions.

• A working proficiency in Dutch is considered an advantage.

• Must already reside in the Netherlands.
