Optics11 is a fast-growing technology business that has developed cutting edge sensor systems providing unique solutions for energy and defense applications that involve precise measurements in challenging environments.

We are seeking an ambitious R&D Development Manager. As the R&D Development Manager, you will lead the Sensor Team consisting of mechanical engineers and sensor developers. This role requires a balance of strong technical expertise and people management skills. You will provide technical guidance, oversee development processes and technical deliverables provided by sensor development team while fostering their growth and collaboration.


Main responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a Sensor Team, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture while defining clear goals and responsibilities.

  • Mentor, motivate, and develop technical knowledge among team members to enable them to perform at their best and grow professionally.

  • Oversee the design, development, and testing of advanced sensor technologies and systems.

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to resolve complex challenges in sensor development.

  • Drive innovation by actively participating in brainstorming and technical problem-solving sessions.

  • Promote continuous improvement in development processes and methodologies.

  • Provide technical input to senior leadership for product roadmaps and strategic decisions.

Job requirements

What We’re Looking For?

  • MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in R&D, with a proven track record in sensor development, mechatronics, or a similar domain.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a leadership/management role, preferably within a technical environment.

  • Strong background in sensor development is a plus (e.g., fiber optics, pressure/force sensors, or related technologies).

  • Proficient understanding of mechanical design, prototyping, and testing processes.

  • Solid project management skills, with experience in planning, executing, and delivering technical projects.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.

  • Excellent leadership, people management, and mentoring abilities.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for various stakeholders.

  • Proactive, hands-on, and result-driven mindset.

  • Strategic thinker with a problem-solving attitude.
