For our Amsterdam Team we are looking for an experienced Electronic Hardware Engineer, who will become a key player in bringing our instruments from the design stage to our customers in the energy and defense markets. Are you ready to join?


Optics11 is an Amsterdam-based high-tech startup on a mission to innovate underwater security and put Netherlands on the map of European sonar industry. As an Electronics Hardware Engineer you will be responsible for the development of the electronic hardware for our measurement systems. The role involves the design of new boards, requirements specification definition towards our sub-suppliers, supporting qualification and compliance testing, and maintaining existing hardware throughout their lifecycle.

Job requirements

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics.
  • Relevant working experience of minimum 5 years in the industry.
  • Excellent understanding of hardware design process and methodologies.
  • Experience with EMC/EMI regulations and design practices.
  • Experience from a defence, aerospace or other similar highly-regulated market.

Technical skills:

  • Knowledge of mixed-signal and analog electronics (e. g. ADC, DAC, power supplies). Experience with optoelectronic circuits is a plus (e. g. photodiode front ends, laser drivers).
  • Experience with digital circuit design for MCU, FPGA, and data interfaces (LVDS, PCIe) and knowledge of power integrity concepts.
  • Experience in Altium Designer (schematic capture and PCB layout).
  • Experience with electronic circuit simulation (e.g. LTspice, Pspice, etc).
  • Hands-on skills for hardware-bring-up, prototyping, debugging, and testing: SMD soldering, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers and other electrical test equipment.
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI and electrical safety standards, as well as thermal management.
  • Specific experience with hardware design and qualification for CE, MIL-spec compliance is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of embedded Linux systems is a plus.

Interpersonal skills:

  • Ability to write and communicate clearly on technical problems, solutions, and workarounds.
  • Being a team-player, but also being able to work autonomously in your field of expertise.
  • Quick learner with a proactive and hands-on working attitude.
 You'll be working with clients in the defense and security sectors, obtaining a Certificate of No Objection issued by the AIVD (Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory.
