We’re looking for a hands-on Laboratory Coordinator to take ownership of our laboratory infrastructure and ensure everything runs safely, efficiently, and smoothly at Optics11!

Optics11 is an Amsterdam-based high-tech scale-up company on a mission to innovate underwater security and put Netherlands on the map of European sonar industry. Our novel fiber optic technology is redefining underwater security, enabling advanced sonar solutions for safeguarding of key naval and underwater infrastructure. Our high-paced development has been met with an ever-growing interest from the market, with selection of our towed array technology for the new generation of Dutch submarines being the latest testament to our progress. Key Responsibilities:

  • Key accountable person for our Optics11 Laboratory infrastructure and equipment.

  • Oversee the acquisition, maintenance, and calibration of all laboratory instruments and equipment – as well as laboratory facilities, safety infrastructure/equipment, and information management systems.

  • Ensure preventive maintenance, calibration, and certification schedules are met and coordinate repairs when necessary – including engagement, selection, and coordination with external suppliers as well as internal stakeholders.

  • Maintain accurate records of all laboratory equipment, procedures, personnel, and all other relevant documentation.

  • Evaluate, recommend, and execute equipment and consumable acquisition, based on laboratory and project needs, within budget and schedule considerations.

  • Manage Laboratory space organization, allocation, stock/inventory, safety, cleanliness, and workflow to ensure efficient, secure, and safe operations.

  • Ensure Laboratory regulatory standard compliance (e.g. ISO9001, ISO10012 & ISO17025), including both direct execution and coordination with other internal/external stakeholders.

  • Develop and provide internal staff training on equipment usage, coordinating qualification of personnel on relevant laboratory equipment.

  • Ensure adequate QHSES norms are implemented, monitored, and audited within the laboratory space (in coordination with our QHSES Department).

Job requirements

What we’re looking for:

  • B.Sc. degree in a relevant discipline in science or engineering, preferred e.g. electrical, mechanical, photonics, physic engineering.

  • 3+ Years of experience in test laboratory or workshop supervision, with a strong focus on equipment, facilities, and regulatory compliance.

  • Strong knowledge of test equipment operation, instrumentation, facility and equipment maintenance management.

  • Familiarity with test laboratory or workshop safety standards, regulatory compliance, and quality management systems.

  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills for tracking equipment, maintenance, and inventory.

  • Must be able to obtain security clearance (EU, NATO).

 

Nice to have:

  • Background in photonic development, production, or testing.

  • Experience in a highly-regulated industry (i.e. Aerospace & Defence).

  • Experience with Lab Information Management Systems (LIMS).

  • Familiarity with regulated industries and with ISO norm implementation (i.e. 9001, 10012, 17025).

 

You'll be working with clients in the defence and security sectors, obtaining a Certificate of No Objection issued by the AIVD (Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory.
