Marine Structures Development Engineer
- On-site
Job description
As a Marine Structures Development Engineer at Optics11, you are responsible for the development and engineering realization of the OptiBarrier marine structures subsystem. Your primary objective is to develop robust structural solutions that ensure the subsea frame and supporting structures can be safely manufactured, deployed, and operated throughout their intended service life.
The marine structures subsystem comprises the seabed-mounted frame, hydrophone mounting structure, lifting provisions, deployment interfaces, mechanical interfaces, and associated structural components that support installation and long-term offshore operation. You translate allocated product and subsystem requirements into engineering solutions that provide structural integrity, mechanical robustness, corrosion resistance, manufacturability, and reliable offshore deployment.
You work closely with Product System Engineering, Product Integration, Verification & Validation, Lifecycle Engineering, manufacturing partners, offshore contractors, and specialized suppliers to ensure the marine structures subsystem is successfully developed and realized as part of the overall product.
What you'll do:
Own the development of the OptiBarrier marine structures subsystem throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and design through manufacturing and offshore deployment.
Design robust offshore and subsea structural solutions, including hydrophone mounting frames, seabed support structures, lifting arrangements, deployment interfaces, and mechanical integrations.
Translate product requirements into reliable structural designs that meet performance, environmental, manufacturability, and lifecycle requirements.
Develop prototypes, perform structural analyses and testing, and continuously improve product robustness, reliability, and manufacturability.
Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to support system integration, verification, validation, industrialization, and product realization.
Collaborate with fabrication suppliers, offshore contractors, and technical partners to ensure high-quality manufacturing, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and successful offshore installation.
Define structural specifications, engineering documentation, interface definitions, calculations, and technical reports.
Identify technical risks, perform engineering trade-off studies and root cause investigations, and implement design improvements to increase product performance and reliability.
Support offshore deployment by developing handling, lifting, transportation, and installation solutions for marine environments.
Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture by sharing knowledge, supporting technical decision-making, and continuously improving engineering processes.
Why Join Us?
Join one of Europe’s most promising deep-tech scale-ups.
Shape the future of a rapidly growing multidisciplinary R&D organization.
Competitive salary and benefits package.
Enjoy regular team activities and company events.
Fresh team lunches provided3 times/ week.
Job requirements
Qualifications:
BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Marine Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related engineering discipline.
Minimum 5 years of experience developing offshore, marine, heavy mechanical, or structural systems.
Proficiency in working with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD systems to develop and review mechanical designs, assemblies, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
Experience designing welded steel structures, offshore equipment, or subsea mechanical systems.
Experience performing structural calculations, load analysis, fatigue assessment, and mechanical interface design.
Experience working with fabrication suppliers and manufacturing partners.
Experience working within multidisciplinary product development teams.
Strong analytical and structured engineering problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Eligible to obtain EU/NATO security clearance.
Preferred:
Experience with DNV, Lloyd's Register, Eurocode, or comparable offshore and marine design standards.
Experience with corrosion protection, cathodic protection, offshore coatings, or subsea structural design.
Hands-on experience with SolidWorks for mechanical design, assembly modelling, and detailed production drawings.
Experience supporting offshore installation, lifting operations, or marine deployment projects.
Experience acting as a Subsystem Lead or technical lead within multidisciplinary engineering projects.
Familiarity with systems engineering, product lifecycle management, verification, and configuration management.
Security & Compliance:
You'll be working with clients in the defense and security sectors, obtaining a Certificate of No Objection issued by the AIVD (Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory. This means you will need to undergo a security screening. For more information, please refer to details on security screening.
