We are seeking a skilled and innovative R&D oriented process engineer to join our dynamic team focused on advancing underwater security technologies. This role is pivotal in developing, testing, and automizing production and assembly processes and hardware for production of cutting-edge optical sensor systems for underwater surveillance and security applications. You will become a part of our young and enthusiastic R&D department, working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary and stimulating international environment, with great growth opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Develop new processes for product manufacturing, from lab-scale to commercial-scale production.
- Coordinate with production and engineering teams to transfer process knowledge and ensure smooth scale-up.
- Design and set up experimental systems to test new processing methods or modifications.
- Improve existing processes for efficiency and safety.
- Implement continuous improvement techniques, such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process optimization methodologies.
- Perform root cause analyses for process issues and implement corrective actions.
- Document findings, prepare technical reports and present insights to R&D and manufacturing teams.
- Prepare manufacturing manuals and documentation, and lead product hand-over from R&D to production team.

Job requirements
Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain security clearance (EU, NATO).
- A BSc or MSc in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or related field.
- Ideally, 5+ years of relevant work experience.
- Strong understanding of various production and assembly techniques.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and engineering materials.
- Understanding of design for manufacturing, assembly, and reliability.
- Familiarity with process optimization techniques and scale-up challenges.
- Ability to troubleshoot process issues and analyse data to draw meaningful insights.
- Strong quantitative skills for data analysis, with knowledge of statistical tools (Minitab, QI Macros) for process improvement.
- Excellent English language communication skills to explain complex processes to technical and non-technical teams.
- Team-oriented with an ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple R&D projects simultaneously.
- Experience in fibre optics, optical sensing or similar domain is a strong plus.
You'll be working with clients in the defense and security sectors, obtaining a Certificate of No Objection issued by the AIVD (Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory.
