We are seeking a skilled and innovative Optical Sensor Development Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team focused on advancing underwater security technologies. This role is pivotal in designing, developing, testing, and deploying cutting-edge optical sensor systems for underwater surveillance and security applications. You will become a part of our young and enthusiastic R&D department, working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary and stimulating international environment, with great growth opportunities.

Responsibilities:

• Analysing and defining system requirements based on input from customers, partners and product management.
• Conceptualization and mechanical design of sensors and structural components based on defined requirements and industry standards.
• Performing calculations/simulations of the designed system.
• Generating 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacturing.
• Supporting assembly, testing and verification of prototypes.
• Documenting and reporting development process for internal and external stakeholders.
• Taking part on system integration or test campaigns with the end customer (surface vessel, submarine, seabed deployment, etc.).

Qualifications:

• Must be able to obtain security clearance (EU, NATO).
• MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
• Ideally, 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• Proficient in mechanical design and analysis using CAD (SolidWorks, PDM) and FEA (COMSOL) software.
• Knowledge of materials and their properties (metals and polymers).
• Understanding of design for manufacturing, assembly, and reliability.
• Experience with data analysis using Python.
• Good communication skills in English.
• Structured and independent working style with excellent collaborative skills.
• Strong plus:
  • Experience in the area of vibro-acoustics.
  • Experience with fiber optics and fiber optic sensors.
  • Experience in Defence or other highly regulated industry

You'll be working with clients in the defense and security sectors, obtaining a Certificate of No Objection issued by the AIVD (Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory.
