For our Amsterdam Team we are looking for an experienced Photonics Engineer, who will become a key player in bringing our fiber-optic sensing instruments from idea, design stage to our customers. The role involves the design of the system architecture, translating product requirements into technical specifications, selecting key components, leading the development from proof of concept to product maturity, and making sound technical decisions along the way.

Our novel fiberoptic technology is redefining underwater security, enabling advanced sonar solutions for safeguarding of key naval and underwater infrastructure. Responsibilities:

  • Build and test prototypes of photonic systems, conducting experiments to validate designs and performance specifications.
  • Develop and execute testing protocols for photonic systems, analyzing data and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to integrate photonic systems into larger electronic and optical systems.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and user manuals.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure successful project execution.

Job requirements

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, or PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Optical Engineering, Applied Physics or a related field in the area of Photonics.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in photonics engineering, with a focus on the design and development of optical systems.
  • Good understanding of fiber-optic sensors, or interferometric measurement systems.
  • Experience with system design practices and technical leadership responsibility.
  • Deep understanding of photonic components and their performance properties.
  • Hands-on experience with optical measurements and experimenting.
  • Familiar with handling of fiber-optics, splicing, working with lasers.
  • Knowledge of signal processing (in Python, or MATLAB) is a strong plus.
  • Deeper understanding of electronics, especially for data acquisition, is a strong plus.
  • Experience with development management tools (JIRA, confluence, GIT) is a plus.

You'll be working with clients in the defense and security sectors, obtaining a Certificate of No Objection issued by the AIVD (Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory.
